THE PROBLEM

Over the last 30+ years, crib mattress materials have been replaced with petroleum-based synthetics. Nearly all crib mattresses in use today contain polyurethane foam, vinyl (PVC), phthalates, chemical fire retardants or barriers, and an extensive list of added industrial chemicals. Recent studies have questioned the use of these materials.

There is growing concern among physicians, health professionals, public safety officials, environmental advocacy groups, and consumers regarding the possible effects of these chemicals on our children. Many researchers suspect that toxic chemicals are playing a significant role in the dramatic increase in childhood disorders.



THE SOLUTION

NATURAL and ORGANIC MATERIALS: Our products utilize natural and organic cotton. Cotton inherently breathes and provides for good air circulation while maintaining more even humidity and balanced temperatures. It has the ideal density for firm yet comfortable bedding.

NON-TOXIC DESIGN: Eliminate materials or chemicals which may be toxic, hazardous, or otherwise potentially harmful. The following are specifically prohibited from all our organic products: • NO Phthalates • NO Vinyl (Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC) • NO Polyurethane Foam • NO Toxic Fire Retardant Chemicals (PBDEs, antimony, modacrylic, PAN, etc.)




Organic cotton sheets by Naturepedic can accompany your crib mattress for your baby. All of these baby sheets are made with 100-percent organic cotton. Aside from actual sheets, other Naturepedic bedding products we carry include mattress pads. Traditionally, mattress pads have been made with vinyl or PVC to prevent leaks, but organic mattress pads, such as these by Naturepedic, are often a combination of 100-percent organic cotton and food-grade polyethylene. The actual Naturepedic bedding itself gives you options of choosing from sateen or flannel for crib sheets, but all have an elastic band to fit around your baby’s organic mattress and mattress pad. In addition, all Naturepedic bedding and sheets are available for traditional cribs, bassinets, and cradles.
